Currency & Exchange
The basic Croatian currency unit is Kuna. It comprises of 100 Lipa. Foreign currency can be exchanged for local money in hotels,banks, post offices and exchange offices, according to the valid rates of exchange. € 1.00 = ~ 7.545 Kuna.

Credit Cards and Methods of Payment
All major credit cards like; American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard /Master Card, Visa, JCB, and Eurocheques, as advertised at points of sale, are normally accepted throughout Croatia. All shops, restaurants, agencies, hotels and other services usually have logo stickers on the door or other visible place for you to be sure which credit cards they accept Traveller's Cheques are also accepted. ATMS are widely available especially in the tourists areas. If your Irish ATM card has the PLUS, CIRRUS or LINK sign on the back, the card can be used in most ATMs. All major credit cards can also be used in ATM's to withdraw cash, however you will need to know your visa PIN number and there is a charge of about €1.50 for each transaction. Banks
Banking hours: 8 a.m. till 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. till noon on Saturdays. All banks are closed on Sunday and public holidays. Cash machines, though seldom found outside the major towns and resorts, are operative 24 hours a day.

Tax Refunds
Tourists who purchase goods for over 500 Kuna (~ €94) may claim a tax return when leaving the country with verified "Tax Cheque" receipts through the Croatian Customs Service. A tax refund can be obtained within one year. The equivalent of VAT - PDV - is 22% in Croatia. Information: Croatian Customs Service (Phone: 01/6102 333). Don't forget to ask salesman to fill out the tax refund form when purchasing goods.

Customs
There are no Customs charges for personal belongings. Foreign currency can be imported and exported freely. Domestic currency up to the value of 2,000 Kuna can be exported. Professional and technical equipment of significant value should be reported when entering the country. Pets must have valid international veterinary certificates.

Tipping
A tip is not included in the price of meals or drinks. If the tip is earned it should be about 10-12 per cent of the bill. Taxi drivers do not expect a tip, but it will be appreciated.
